What Equipment To Use During A Ghost Investigation

Equipment:

Watch

• To record what time any unusual observations are happening
• Flashlight
• Red filter to prevent blindness beyond the beam of light
• UV filter to view other spectrums of light that often reveal paranormal anomalies

Still Camera

• 35 mm (recommended 400 spd film or higher and IR film for professional photographers)
• Digital (these are good for instant verification of possible evidence)

Video Camera

• Any will work to record anomalies
• Night vision/IR shot a bonus to show temperature differences and a different spectrum of light
• Stationary (on tripod) or carried by investigator

Tape recorder/digital voice recorder

• To record any unusual audio evidence (also known as EVP)

EMF Detector

• A field propagated by a combination of electric and magnetic energy which radiates from radio and light waves to gamma and cosmic rays. It is believed that when spirits manifest, they create an electromagnetic field
• Will help prove normal vs natural energy

Thermometer/Thermoscanner

• To record base temperature readings and note any changes
• Cold spots theorized if a spirit wishes to communicate physically or materialize in some way, they draw upon the energy of their surroundings. This ebb of energy causes a cold spot and therefore is an indication of a present spirit

Know Your Equipment



• Make sure camera lenses are clean. Dust, debris and smudges on lenses can appear to be anomalies when photographing or recording.
• Always have a flashlight with you, but only turn it on when necessary (if you have done the lighted walkthrough, you should already be aware of any obstacles.) Bright lights can cause your eyes to not be adjusted enough to view things happening beyond the beam of light, or cause temporary blindness in which activity may be missed. A way to help prevent some of these issues is to use a red filter on your flashlight. This spectrum of light does not cause your eyes to readjust as drastically.
• Always have spare batteries for ANY electoral/electronic devices. Often during investigations, batteries will drain unexpectedly during encounters. It is thought that a spirit is drawing on the batteries energy to manifest itself. So be prepared!
• If photos are sent to a lab, make sure to write “Print All Negatives” on the package. Photo labs will often pick and choose what prints they will give you, and a picture that they may think is a duplicate, or did not expose, may indeed have an anomaly on it!
